The Belk Rewards Mastercard® is a pretty good credit card with great rewards systems in place.
In fact, if you open this card today, you’ll earn an extra 20% off almost everything in the store at Belk online or in-person, plus a $10 bonus reward in Belk Dollars.
An additional fun feature of this specific card is that it’s equipped with contactless technology, meaning you can shop anywhere touch-free, as long as the Contactless Symbol shows up on the payment machines at each cash register.
This feature makes it so much faster and easier to cash out. Plus, it’s promised to be safe and secure every time.
The Belk Rewards Mastercard® is a store-only card that rewards all in-store and online purchases made at Belk.
Additional smaller rewards are granted for gas and grocery purchases, with minimal rewards for anything outside Belk and the gas/grocery categories.
The more you spend with this Mastercard®, the more upgrades in status you’ll get over the years with your revolving rewards program.
The Belk Rewards Mastercard® has many features that aren’t often talked about.
For instance, Belk offers great starter bonuses, including 20% all Belk purchases on the first day of use.
A 1000-point bonus is also granted, redeemable for a $10 purchase or #10 off your first purchase at Belk.
The ongoing rewards system grants you three points per dollar spent to start. Rewards can actually go up from there.
This is a similar feature that most store cards offer, with a twist. Belk grants a whopping 3% reward, whereas most others only offer a measly 1%.
The $0 annual fee is another perk granted by most store cards.
The one twist is that this Belk Rewards Mastercard® does require you to have at least fair credit.
This can be a good thing considering you’ll be able to build credit without making any purchases. Just be sure to keep your account in good standing all the time.
As stated multiple times, the Belk Rewards Mastercard® has a pretty great rewards system.
But, before getting involved and throwing yourself into another credit card, you’ll likely want to know how the rewards system works on a day-to-day basis.
Earning rewards is as easy as making purchases – but the different purchases will grant different rewards. Think about it this way: The more you spend, the greater your rewards will be.
To start, the Belk Rewards Mastercard® gives 3% back, or 3 points back, when you spend $0-$599 in Belk purchases in the first year.
From there, you can earn 4% back when you spend $600-$1499.99 on Belk purchases. And from there, you can earn 5% back when you spend upwards of $1500 on Belk purchases.
Outside of that, you can earn 2% on any gas and grocery purchases with 1% on all other purchases non-Belk, grocery, or gas-related.
To use your Belk rewards, you must accrue points up to 1000. Belk gives rewards back in cash increments of $10, and 1000 points equals $10.
If you have any leftover points upwards of 1000 and it doesn’t round to the nearest thousand, the points will carry over into the next statement.
Luckily there is no cap off of rewards, meaning you can earn as many points as you want overall; they’ll never be taken away from you.
The trick is that you can only earn 100 Belk Reward Dollars per billing cycle, which is a hard goal to reach in itself with spending.
Once you earn your rewards, they’ll be mailed to you within the next 2-3 business days. The only thing to be aware of is that points expire a year from the day that they’re earned.
Present your rewards to the in-store cashier or at checkout online to redeem. All rewards can be used with other promotions and additional coupons.
All in all, the Belk Rewards Mastercard® centers its features and benefits around its awards and cash back systems.
So, if you often shop at Belk, you’ll easily upgrade your account and maximize your rewards, which can be great for a serious spender that pays off their card each month.
This card’s additional features and benefits are 2% rewards on gas and groceries and 1% rewards on all other things non-Belk related.
This can be a good starting point if you’re looking for a retail card that gives you the bare minimum of rewards outside of Belk stores.
The great part about applying for and holding this specific credit card is that you’ll be first to access special promotions and cardholder-specific coupons; it’s like you’ll be ahead of the shopping game in comparison to all other customers.
Like any other store-only card, the Belk Rewards Mastercard® has absolutely no annual fee, which makes it easy to say yes to opening one.
The one thing that cardholders look for is a credit card with no attached fees that will get them where they least expect it.
Exclusive savings events encourage borrowers to make purchases at Belk, and having 20 of them per year is just a great selling point for the credit card.
If you’re a regular customer without a Belk Rewards Mastercard®, you may not see the in-store promotions in time.
On the other hand, if you do own and use a Belk Rewards Mastercard®, you will get early access to those in-store promotions, meaning you’ll have the first pick of the litter, the best of the best. Another selling point indeed.
If you often shop at Belk, there’s no reason to say no to the Belk Rewards Mastercard®; it would be a wise decision to apply just because of the rewards program, the additional savings per year, and the easy buildup of points.
If you have great spending habits, you’ll reach the 5% tier in no time. Plus, if you reach the highest tier after spending so much in-store and online at Belk, you’ll be able to indulge in 25 exclusive savings days on average per month.
If you’re not a frequent shopper at the store, you may want to think twice before signing up for this credit card.
The high APR’s and the intense late fees may put you behind on your payments or may cause you to get in more debt than you started with.
Compared to Belk Rewards Mastercard®, the Capital One® Walmart Rewards® Mastercard does not have a tiered rewards system.
Instead, it starts and stays at 5% on purchases online at Walmart. This includes grocery pickups and deliveries, with unlimited additional rewards inside and outside of Walmart.
Unfortunately, cardholders that go directly in-store are downgraded to a 2% rewards system. A 2% reward is also granted for all purchases made at restaurants and in travel, with 1% granted to all purchases accepted by Mastercard®.
The two cards are similar in that neither has an annual fee, and all rewards can be used towards purchases.
The Amazon Prime Rewards Card grants 5% back on all Amazon and Whole Foods purchases as long as the Prime membership is activated and eligible.
Outside of those rewards, the Amazon Prime Rewards Card grants 2% back at restaurants, gas stations, and drugstores, with 1% back on all other purchases. Unfortunately, there’s no way of wiggling your way out of a Prime membership with this credit card.
The two have some things in common, including no annual fee, flexible rewards redemption, and no 0% intro APR.
The Citi® Double Cash Card offers unlimited 1% back as you buy with an additional 1% as you pay.
Thankfully, this credit card option has 18 months of 0% APR on balance transfers, making it easier for you to get out of debt with any other credit card you may own.
The big thing between these two cards is that they both do not submit an annual fee for you to pay.
Any credit score in the realm of fair will get you approved for a Belk Rewards Mastercard®. Just be careful because retail cards can get you with their high APRs. After just a couple of months, you don’t want to turn your fair score into a bad credit score.
Yes, although it was specifically created to be used in-store and online at Belk. The Belk Rewards Mastercard® still encourages cardholders to use it for all gas and grocery-related purchases, but realistically any purchase can be made on this credit card.
Not at all. If you have fair credit and apply with valid information, you should be good to go.
That’s a subjective question, and it all depends on whether you shop at Belk frequently or not. If you do, the rewards program is fantastic and will help you save money no matter what tier you’re at.
If you don’t frequently shop at Belk and just want this credit card to operate as your retail card.
Just keep in mind that almost any other retail card will operate the same way and may have better rewards in the long run for you. In our opinion, you are better off going with the Citi Double Cash Card or the Capital One Savor Rewards Credit Card. These two cards offer better rewards and are far more flexible.
All in all, the Belk Rewards Mastercard® is perfect for people who spend a lot of money in-store and online at Belk.
Primarily speaking, this card was created for people who are a fan of the store Belk, but it didn’t want to deter other cardholder possibilities, so it threw in some additional minimal rewards for gas, grocery, and other purchases to draw prospects in.
Go for it if you shop at Belk or think you’ll start shopping at Belk because of their strategic rewards system. Weigh your other options if you’re not such a big fan of the store itself.
